Insight:
In recent years, there has been a concerning increase in sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) amongst the younger generation.
Compared to people 25 and older, young people aged 15 to 24 years remain at the highest risk of the most common STIs. This may be due to more frequent changes of sexual partners (UK Health Security Agency, 2022), as well as a result of the increasing trend of casual sex and unprotected intercourse. This has lead to the rate of STIs rapidly increasing amongst young people.
Statistics illustrate that the rate of STIs among young people aged 15-24 has been on the rise for the past decade. (Sharma, 2023)
My Response
‘All the best, Johnny’ is a 16th birthday themed STI awareness campaign. It is a collaboration between Brook (National Sexual Health Charity (for young people under 25) and the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA). The campaign aims to raise awareness of STIs to teenagers, and how they can be prevented by wearing a condom.
Teenagers don’t seek this information out, so we’ve brought the information to them instead (quite literally, like ‘right-to-their-own-doorstep’ literally).
The main elements of the campaign consists of a ‘16th birthday card’ and ‘present’, that are sent in the post to the target audience. These elements arrive in the post straight to their doorstep, addressed to them.
